Summer Shorts

Dear Diary,

What a great summer! Here are a few short stories that make me smile …

I recently advised an international student with very poor English language skills. Not doing well academically,  she was struggling to find 12 hours of courses in which she thought she could be successful.  When she met with me she had already registered for Calculus 1 and Introduction to Spanish (not her native language). As we were discussing other options, she asked me if there were any other courses she could take that did not require English!

I was recently notified that one of our graduating seniors wasn’t attending classes. I contacted him via email, to which he replied that he had been ill with a fever of 107 degrees. I let him know how lucky he was to be alive!!

I work almost exclusively with Freshmen, so I have lots of laughs and tears.  Several years ago I had a young lady who objected to taking Sociology. “No”, she said, “I don’t want to take any of those -ologies-.”

And last but not least… Answered the phone as the senior advisor, a student asked “Are all your evening classes at night?”
