Dear Diary,
When I arrived at work, I was disgusted to find a dead, large ROACH on the floor by the baseboard in my office. I quickly discarded the insect in rigor mortis in my office trash can.
During an advising appointment a student happened to mentioned that she was working on an insect collection assignment for her Introduction to Entomology class. What a coinicidence! I told her about the surprise I had found in my office earlier that day. She lit up and excitedly asked “Do you still have it?” In fact, I did, still in my trash! So, I carefully fished it out of the garbage can, placed it in a plastic baggie, and stapled it shut. She was thrilled to have another addition to her collection.
Just another way we advisors serve our students !

Thanks for submitting your story and the first (ew!) photo.
Now that the semester is about to start, this cute story reminded me of why I do this job. Because it’s different everyday and I have the opportunity to serve our students in a multitude of ways. So onward and upward everybody. Happy Fall Semester!
If we are voting for a light and humorous instance where advisors are supportive, then this gets my top vote. This roach looks strangely familiar, like the occasional deceased ones that I see on our campus. They could be related!
What a great story to get a good laugh at the start of another school year!~Victoria
I love this story!
