Dear Diary,
Our college’s Fall 2009 pre-registration period had a 5 PM deadline by which a student needed to be in at least one course to hold his/her spot. A day before this deadline, our office contacted all students who had yet to register (even if they had registration holds) and reminded them of the 5 PM deadline the next day.
This morning I received an email from a student who wrote that she ‘had no idea [she] had to be in at least one class by yesterday.’ Hmmmm, it’s a funny thing… considering her email was a direct reply to mine that said “the deadline to register in at least one class is 5 PM tomorrow.” Ah, well.

Thanks for submitting this story. How many times have we heard…”but nobody told me”?
I bet you have a similar story. If so, please share by clicking on the “Submit Your Story”link in the menu.
Didn’t you realize we’re supposed to call each one separately AND go to their door, as well as write on their Facebook Wall and tweet them, all individually? :~)
But whatever you do, don’t email them. They ‘don’t read their emails.’
The two toughest people on campus are “nobody” and “somebody” These two individuals keep messing my students up with poor advice
Not only do we hear “…but nobody told me”, but we also hear “…YOU didin’t tell me I needed to register”.
Who would think that “reading” is an expected pre-requisite for college success???
I’ve always want to write a book with the title, “Nobody Ever Told Me That.” Only when we reach the day that messges are hardwired into their brains, will that statement cease to be used. Great story!
I had a similar argument with a student when she angerly told me that no one had told her the information I was repeating. I opend up her file, showed her the form she had signed next to my signature with detailed notes about what she had not been informed about. I said “I’m the nobody that told you this!”
